Why You Should Consider a Chinese Preschool
Did you know that Mandarin is the world’s most widely spoken language today? As China’s economy and global profile continues to grow, it is becoming ever more important for your child to have a strong foundation in the Mandarin language, so that he/she can excel in the future world. As Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong recently opined, “Most young Chinese Singaporeans can understand and speak the language, but they may not speak it fluently. And Singapore may be losing its bilingual competitive edge.”
Since 95% of a child’s brain develops before the age of 5, the early years are the best time to ingrain strong language fundamentals in your child. Especially for English-speaking households, sending your child to a Chinese preschool helps to ensure that he/she is able to immerse in a Mandarin-rich environment to master the language and be effectively bilingual by the age of 6.
Mulberry Learning’s Chinese Preschool Programme
Our Chinese preschool integrates the Mandarin language into the child’s daily routine and makes learning it a delight. This enables them to gain better exposure to the language as they learn, play, listen, sing, dance and interact with the teachers and their peers in Mandarin. The children also gain a deeper understanding of the language whilst nurturing a love for it as they engage in a myriad of fun activities to learn about the amazing arts, literature, philosophy and festivals of one of the oldest cultures in the world.
As the Chinese preschool programme is also integrated with Mulberry Learning’s award-winning iDevelop / iExplore / iExperience / iLearn curriculum model, parents can rest assured that signature programmes like Reggio-inspired Project InquiryTM, Habits of MindTM and Literacy FunTM are still included as part of the holistic learning that nurtures the Future Ready Child.
Here are the highlights of our Chinese Preschool Programme
1. A Sound Foundation in Chinese Literacy
With a structured and progressive pathway designed to build competency in Chinese, our Chinese preschool programme enables the child to develop an expressive vocabulary of more than 4,200 Chinese words, while familiarizing and reciting more than 30 Chinese poems and over 80 idioms by the age of six. Their reading, listening, speaking and writing skills are also honed through a myriad of fun lessons and activities.
2. Habits of Mind™ and Reggio-Inspired Project Inquiry™
An established framework that has been adopted by Singapore’s Ministry of Education for its Gifted Education Programme, the Habits of Mind™ will be taught to children from all levels (PN to K2) to enable them with intelligent thinking skills and traits to succeed in a volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous world.
Children from N1 to K2 will be engaged in self-directed learning through the Reggio-inspired Project Inquiry. Learning takes place in an inquiring environment with Chinese being the medium of communication and instruction as they develop communication, problem-solving, questioning, thinking and social skills while cultivating positive attributes.
3. Moral Education through Di Zi Gui (弟子规)
Besides learning how to listen, read, speak and write proficiently in Chinese, moral values are imparted to the children through the teachings of Di Zi Gui (弟子规). Based on the ancient teaching of the Chinese philosopher Confucius, it emphasizes on the basic requisites for being a good person and guidelines for living in harmony with others.

4. Current Affairs
An informed child has the power of knowledge. The children are engaged in regular discussions on current affairs and world events in Chinese. This enables the child to gain the confidence to converse in Chinese as they ask and answer questions while sharing their thoughts with their peers.
5. Enrichment Programmes
Mulberry Learning’s enrichment programmes are S.T.E.A.M. based and aimed at building your child’s current affairs and critical thinking skills. Designed on the theory of Multiple Intelligences and delivered in Chinese, your child acquires their knowledge of language, literacy, numeracy and science in a fun and interactive way.
- Chinese Cultural Programme (K1 – K2)
- Picasso Kidz (PN – K2)
- Music Mooves (PN – K2)
- Busy Bakers (PN – K2)
- Practical Life Skills (PN – N1)
6. International Friendship Programme
This programme is developed to connect Mulberrians to children in partner schools in Beijing and Shenzhen via video-conferencing technology on a monthly basis. The children from both countries learn to collaborate and share their findings with one another as they conduct project work. Not only does this encourage the use of Chinese for communication, it enables the children to embark on a cultural exchange while fostering new friendships. Besides project work, Mulberry Learning also actively conducts student exchange programmes for both parents and child. The aim of this is to create a platform for the visitors to meet and interact with the Mulberrians locally.
