3 qualities that make Mulberry Learning teachers unique!

Preschool teachers are instrumental in shaping a child’s development in the early years. At Mulberry Learning, our Reggio-inspired approach to early childhood learning means that teachers must put on many different hats throughout the day.

They could be an expressive storyteller in the morning, a facilitator of children’s inquiries in the afternoon, and even a caring playmate inculcating positive habits as the children engage in imaginary play!

What exactly do our teachers at Mulberry Learning possess that make them so unique? Let’s hear from our teachers at Tanjong Pagar!

How will you say the Reggio-inspired approach makes teaching at Mulberry Learning different?

JiaYing Laoshi (Teacher Emma):

The Reggio-Emilia early childhood approach is student-centric. Because of that, as a teacher, I will take the children’s interests as the lead, encourage them to explore on their own, discover their own interests and abilities, and support them to express their views and feelings about things.

In addition, the communication and interaction between the teacher and the child is also very important, because this allows the teacher to observe students, and through communicating, teachers can also better understand the children’s thoughts and opinions!

Through teaching via the Reggio-inspired approach, I also learnt to use open-ended questions to stimulate children’s participation.

“Our role in school is not only to teach children. We are also learning all the time!”

Lin Laoshi (Teacher Elviy):

The biggest difference teaching at Mulberry Learning is that we subscribe to the Reggio Emilia teaching philosophy. Our Reggio-inspired Project Inquiry enables children to take charge of their own learning as they express themselves, be creative, and boldly share what they learn.

Teacher Nur:

As our environment and our surrounding are full of natural resources and materials, it made teaching more interesting as I get to showcase them in my lessons. The children really enjoy the hands-on activities as they get to explore using their 5 senses, while being able to build knowledge!

What do you think are the unique characteristics of Mulberry Learning @ Tanjong Pagar teachers?

Lin Laoshi (Teacher Elviy):

In my nine years of teaching at Tanjong Pagar, I admire the teachers’ dedication and teaching of the children the most.

For every class, activity and event, the teachers work hard to prepare materials and lesson plans, just to give the children the best learning experience and the best memories.

JiaYing Laoshi (Teacher Emma):

Being at Mulberry Learning @ Tanjong Pagar is like returning to a big family surrounded with love. The relationship among teachers is not just a colleague relationship, but also like family members. We have common goals and beliefs to do our best for the children. We learn together, grow together, discuss together, and share together, even with the little ones!

The teachers at Mulberry Learning @ Tanjong Pagar have a rich teaching experience. When encountering problems and challenges in teaching, there will always be people around to give guidance and help.

Teacher Nur:

Teachers at Mulberry Learning @ Tanjong Pagar possess many wonderful characteristics any child or parent could ever asked for!

Teachers here are known to be caring and approachable towards children, which makes them feel welcome and loved. Not only towards children, even towards parents and also our own colleagues! Should we need any help or ideas, we can just tap on anyone and they will be happy to help!

Mulberry Learning teachers at Tanjong Pagar also have creative hands and minds, which is clearly evident during curriculum lessons, projects and events.

We can turn many resources and materials into great hands-on activities that children can use to explore and construct knowledge!

How have the training programmes at Mulberry Learning benefited you as a teacher?

Teacher Nur:

The i-InspireTM training programmes provided are relevant to my work. It helps to improve my skills and knowledge. There are times where our trainers shares strategies and it has definitely helped me in my teaching approach and techniques!

Working here has benefited me in so many ways. I get to gain and expand more knowledge and share it with my parents through the weekly update! Not only that, my colleagues also love to share their experiences during the training and the peer learning has undoubtedly provided me many more new ideas on how I can conduct my lessons!

JiaYing Laoshi (Teacher Emma):

Mulberry Learning’s training content is not only rich and comprehensive, but also includes teacher interaction and various sharing by experienced educators. Our leaders will also provide training based on the needs of teachers. Every training has benefited me a lot, made me more confident and thinking in teaching, and helped me solve numerous challenges and  problems that I encountered in the teaching process. It also provides me with useful teaching and learning strategies.

In addition, the training allows me to reflect on my own teaching methods and thereby improve myself. I am very grateful for the training programmes and how it helps me to become a better teacher.

Lin Laoshi (Teacher Elviy):

I particularly enjoy the Habits of Mind training conducted every term. Equipping children with habits as a form of positive behaviour is not the easiest. Through learning in-depth about each habit, we can then translate our knowledge to the children and cater the learning for the little ones.
