How To Provide a Conducive Learning Environment at Home
If you’re a parent, you know that providing a conducive learning environment at home is a challenge. Whether it’s keeping your child focused, helping them learn and grow, or just having fun with their lessons, making sure they have everything they need at home is important for their success.
Limit Distractions
Create a quiet environment to help your child learn. For example, if your child needs a lot of space in which to work, make sure you have cleared out as much clutter as possible. If they need some background music, play something softer than their usual favourites and keep the volume low enough that they can hear themselves think.
You Are Your Child’s First Teacher
Long before a child speaks any words, language is still developing. We talk, sing, read, and tell stories to kids as we wait. Telling stories is a crucial step toward becoming a reader because oral language, or the capacity to speak and understand language, naturally progresses to reading and writing. By telling stories, you can help your child develop his or her oral language. Use your imagination and modify your stories to reflect the customs and culture of your family.
Another way is to use your daily activities and surroundings to encourage a conducive learning environment at home, which gives kids access to print and words in real-world contexts. For instance, there are many opportunities for literacy learning in the kitchen, like labelling your appliances, refrigerator drawers, and pantry items, working with your child to follow a recipe, and identifying keywords on food labels.
Be Present to Answer Your Child’s Questions
Being present is important because it helps your child feel like they can approach you. A child who knows they can get help from their parents feels more comfortable and secure, especially when it comes to homework or projects. If your child needs help in a particular area of study, be sure that you are there for them!
Kids need to know that learning takes time and effort. They need to understand that it’s normal for them to feel frustrated when they try new things, but if they keep working at it, they get better.
You Are Your Child’s Role Model
Parents are the first teachers of their children and the most important role models in their lives. When children see their parents being kind, respectful, and polite to others, they likely follow suit. Your job is not only to teach your children how to behave but model what behaviour you expect from them.
By exhibiting your motivated behaviour, you can show your child how to be motivated to study and perform well in school. Let your child observe you setting goals for yourself and evaluating your behaviour. Whatever the outcome of your five-minute mile, they will be able to appreciate the effort, process, and value you put into it.
Teach your child that there are no small or large goals—everyone defines success differently. Use this model to teach them good habits for chores and schoolwork as well as to be open to and supportive of their interests!
A Conducive Learning Environment Is a Game-changer
Your child wants to learn more if they are in a positive learning environment, where they feel safe and supported. If they feel threatened, challenged or stressed out all the time, it’s difficult for them to focus on their studies.
By providing a conducive learning environment at home, you are giving your child the best chance to succeed. By creating an environment where they feel safe and supported, you can help them grow as a person and learn better. It’s also important for parents to be their child’s first teacher, meaning that you should teach them all about the world around them by being available to answer any questions they have or give them help in areas where they need it most. Finally, act as your child’s role model so that they will know how to behave when confronted with difficult situations such as those we mentioned earlier!
is known for its exquisitely designed that are Reggio-inspired. We think that carefully chosen environments help our kids learn the most. Because of this, we take great care to design a physical canvas that awakens their senses, inspires their innate creativity, and feeds their insatiable curiosity.
Every parent understands how it feels to have their child do something seemingly “out of character” and wonder…where did he/she pick it up from? Or when you are doing household chores or preparing to go to work, and they picked that exact time on purpose to break something. It can be increasingly frustrating, and it would be easy for you to snap at them. This is how not to set an example.
